WOOLY KATE TOMATO SEEDS

Solanum lycopersicum

We find the flavor of most “anthocyanin improved" tomatoes to be disappointing, and the fruits produced by Wooly Kate are as expected, though fairly sweet and pleasantly plush compared to something like Indigo Rose, which is inedible. Still, we do not recommend this tomato for the fruits. What makes this selection worthwhile is the plant itself. These plants are gorgeous!! The silvery fuzzy foliage is incredibly striking in the garden, and it is persistent! Totally impervious to blight and wilt and seemingly even hornworms. Worth growing for “floral" material or in an ornamental border just for the sake of its unique beauty. Fabulous contrast. The fruits are frankly superfluous.

Start these seeds indoors as you would any other tomato. Harden off before transplanting into the garden after all danger of frost has passed. Indeterminate plants did not grow taller than 5' in our clay field, and the sturdy main stem was easily trained onto a single stake. Produced very few fruits for us, and if growing for foliage perhaps pinching most young fruits would be prudent.

An incredible find for lovers of functional foliage plants. Bred by Tom Wagner.

Packet contains at least 15 seeds.

Pictured with Sangria Agastache, Zinnia peruviana, and a spontaneous Helianthus hybrid (probably H. debilis x annuus) that popped up in our field this year.
