Canary Yellow Chard
Canary Yellow Chard
CANARY YELLOW CHARD
Beta vulgaris var. cicla
ORGANIC
Really beautiful selection with saturated golden yellow stems and lightly crumpled green leaves. Relatively tender compared to most chard, but still more "rustic" than Erbette. Still worth growing to bring glowing color to the vegetable garden in summer.
Can be sown directly into the garden and cut for salad before being thinned for big bouffant plants. Or start indoors in flats: tuck seeds just beneath moist soil, pressing to keep seed snug. Kept warm (around 70°F) and moist in bright light seeds germinate in a week or two. Thin to just one plant per cell and grow on in bright light at cool (but not cold) temperatures. Transplant into the garden in spring or in late summer where autumn lingers.
We love to sow Baby Blue Eyes beneath these transplants in spring. The contrast between the blue flowers and yellow stems is very charming indeed. This combination can also be grown in a large broad container.
Packet contains at least 100 seeds.
