MARINA DI CHIOGGIA SEEDS

Cucurbita maxima

Beloved Venitian heirloom with rampant and productive vines. Fantastically bumpy pumpkins are shades of dark and grey green with delicious dry flesh in a striking shade of yellow. One of the best for winter storage, fruits will keep for up to a year when properly cured. Makes amazing ravioli and gnocchi.

Requiring at least 100 days to mature, Marina di Chioggia fares best in long hot summers. Those of us in less suitable climates should sow these seeds indoors around one month before the last frost: sow two or three seeds about 1/2" deep in a 6" pot and mist generously with warm water; cover with plastic to maintain heat and moisture; kept warm and moist at 70°F, seeds should germinate in a few days; uncover and grow on in bright light at warm room temperature. Fertilize weekly with dilute fish emulsion. Take care to harden off before carefully transplanting into well-amended garden soil after all danger of frost has passed. Mulch generously and water frequently until established.

Italian seed.

Packet contains at least 15 seeds.
