SWEET MARJORAM SEEDS

Origanum majorana

Indispensable in the kitchen, the small fragrant pale green leaves of Sweet Marjoram are delicious both fresh and dried and are an important component of several European and Middle Eastern cuisines. Plants grow quickly in warm weather and should be pinched very frequently to discourage flowering.

Dry bundles of Marjoram in small paper bags before stripping leaves from stems and storing in a small glass jar. Dried leaves will maintain their flavor for several months if kept cool and dry. Requisite for traditional Ligurian cuisine, authentic golabki, and contributes to a very good approximation of za'atar.

Easy to grow indoors or out. Germinates in a week or so at 70°F in bright light. Prefers heat and full sun. Perfect for containers, but will bolt promptly if unattended. Sow throughout the season.

Not to be confused with hardy Origanum vulgare which is fairly inedible. Marjoram must be grown as an annual.
