Very nice understated selection of this Mexican species, with a slightly shorter stature and more bouffant growth habit. Blooming from mid-summer through autumn, by late summer these plants are essentially small shrubs with tons of golden flowers buzzing with bees and butterflies. Perfect for fallscaping.
Seeds may be sown into warm soil in full sun after the last spring frost, but we prefer to start them indoors around six weeks before the last spring frost. Tuck seeds just beneath the surface of moist soil and cover with plastic to maintain moisture and temperature. Kept warm (around 75°F) and moist in bright light the seeds germinate within a week or two. Cool nights will delay germination. Once seedlings have true leaves prick out and transplant into deep pots of moist soil to grow on at warm temperatures in bright light. Harden off before transplanting into warm soil in full sun after all danger of frost has passed. Space generously, and mulch generously in rocky dry soils. Most floriferous given a deep watering at least weekly, but very tolerant of extreme heat.
Mature plants can grow to about 5' tall and at least 3' across. Young plants can be pinched to encourage early branching, but this isn't entirely necessary.
Packet contains at least 30 seeds.
