KNIOLA'S PURPLE BLACK MORNING GLORY SEEDS

Ipomoea purpurea

My favorite of the purple morning glories, Kniola's blooms early, even as the plants have barely begun twining themselves around whatever support they can find. Incredibly floriferous, the gorgeous deep dark purple flowers have subtle carmine stars and glowing white throats. The vines will grow possibly indefinitely, and wind themselves around the massive heads of our 12' Mongolian Giant Sunflowers by late summer. True stock of this lovely selection, originally discovered on an abandoned Indiana farmstead by Mr. Kniola.

These seeds can be sown directly into warm moist garden soil once all danger of frost has passed. They may also be started indoors a couple weeks before transplanting. Common germination instructions recommend nicking and soaking these seeds, but this is not necessary as long as the soil in which they are sown is consistently moist. Tucking the seeds below the surface of damp mulched soil is sufficient in our experience.

We sow morning glory seeds around our tallest sunflowers when they are just under 1'. These vines are easy on a tall trellis or arched cattle panel and will frankly find their way up almost anything, including downspouts and crumbling masonry. They are a great companion for Giant Moonflowers.

Take care to plant these morning glories where you will not mind volunteers in coming years because they will self-sow prodigiously.

Grown by Farmacie Isolde.
