BALL'S CALENDULA SEEDS

Calendula officinalis

An old and excellent strain of this useful species, one that is appropriate for bedding and for cutting. Selected by American plantsman George Jacob Ball over a century ago, these big double clear bright orange flowers are astoundingly beautiful in the landscape, especially in autumn. Petals are edible and the plants make fantastic companions in the vegetable garden. Floriferous plants grow to no more than 2' in bloom.

Easy to grow: sow the seeds into the garden in very early spring and water frequently until seeds have germinated. Thin seedlings to around 6" apart. Seeds can also be started in flats and transplanted while soils are still quite cool. In warm coastal climates and in the relatively frost-free south they can be sown or started in autumn.

Not selected for medicinal use (we recommend ‘Erfurter' for that) but certainly worth using for culinary and soothing skincare purposes.

Packet contains around 500 seeds.
