CHEROKEE TIGER DWARF TOMATO
Solanum lycopersicum
This extraordinary dwarf tomato features gorgeous bright chartreuse semi-rugose foliage on incredibly sturdy 1’-2’ plants*. Rarely requires support until late in the season when laden with tons of ripe fruits, and even then a pretty painted stake will suffice. Foliage color is persistent, especially given some late afternoon shade. Stunning in a container. Early and productive over the entire season. Our favorite tomato for edible landscaping. Selection of a selection made by the great tomato breeder Bill Jeffers.
Saladette tomatoes are a dusky pink striped with light green that becomes a shimmering gold when ripe. Interior features striking green gel. Beautiful. Good flavor for a dwarf, sometimes even excellent flavor given hot weather. Perfect for the patio garden. Worth growing for the foliage alone.
Sow indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost: tuck seeds just beneath the surface of moist soil, pressing gently to keep seeds snug and cover with plastic to maintain moisture. Kept warm (around 75°F) and moist in bright light seeds will germinate within a week. Cooler temperatures will slow germination. Gently prick out seedlings to grow on in individual pots or cells until transplanting outdoors. Tomato seedlings will benefit from a weekly application of dilute fish and/or seaweed-based fertilizer, although it is not necessary, especially if you choose a quality potting mix. Harden off before transplanting into warm sunny garden soil after all danger of frost has passed.
These plants are ideal for containers which can be strategically placed outdoors on warm spring days and brought indoors at night several weeks before the last spring frost date, often resulting in very early fruit set!
Grown by Farmacie Isolde.
Packet contains at least 20 seeds.
*Note that in previous years we have offered a somewhat larger selection that grew to 3’ or more. These plants are much smaller as well as more productive.
