CLEMATIS INTEGRIFOLIA SEEDS

Clematis integrifolia

Shrubby little Eurasian species common to moist sunny meadows and diverse riparian areas. Pendulous blue or lavender bells on plants that grow to just over 2' or so. Over time these plants spread and sprawl and cover a lot of ground, creating their own ideal habitat by shading and cooling the soil. Blooms over two to three months in spring and summer. Magical en masse. Fantastic with hardy geraniums.

The wiry stems of this species are long and sturdy enough for cutting. Seed heads are silvery and attractive and persist well into autumn.

Seeds germinate best with some cold. Sow into pots of moist soil, sprinkle with vermiculite and mist generously. Cover with plastic and place in a sheltered location outdoors in late winter or early spring. Seeds will germinate over several weeks as weather warms in the spring. Alternatively, place pots into the refrigerator for 2-4 weeks and then under bright lights at cool room temperature to germinate over two weeks or so. Prick out seedlings to grow on in individual deep 3" pots in bright light. Water and fertilize regularly and harden off before transplanting into moist soil in full sun in spring or autumn. Water frequently until established.

Very hardy, surviving winters in zone 2!
