GOOD KING HENRY SEEDS

Blitum bonus-henricus

ORGANIC

Ancient perennial potherb grown in European vegetable gardens for thousands of years. Recently reclassified as a Blitum rather than a Chenopodium. New growth may be be harvested and prepared like asparagus in the spring. Substantial arrowhead-shaped leaves may be harvested like spinach throughout the summer. Nutritious forage for both humans and chickens. Prefers fertile soil in part shade.

Seeds generally require stratification to germinate. Best sown in situ in autumn or late winter into very early spring. Harvest leaves very sparingly if you must in the first year. Will self-sow where it is happy and is best established en masse by allowing first year plants to sow themselves. Unfortunately the seedlings do not transplant very well. If you must start in flats choose deep cells and allow plants to develop extensive root systems before attempting to transplant.

Ideal for permaculture and chicken gardens.

Packet contains around 100 seeds.
