Phaseolus vulgaris

An heirloom pole shelling bean made available to gardeners by Glenn Drowns of Sandhill Preservation Center in Iowa. Excellent rich meaty flavor. Beautiful round beans miraculously keep their markings after cooking. Perfect as a soup or salad bean. Highly recommended for gardening vegans and vegetarians.

Vigorous productive vines require a sturdy trellis. May be trained on tall corn or sunflowers. Late to mature: around 85 days to the shell stage. Worth the wait. For storage, allow to dry for as long as possible on the vine before drying completely indoors. Shell and freeze beans to kill any bean weevils before storing in an airtight glass jar.
