BLAUWSCHOKKERS SEEDS

Pisum sativum

ORGANIC

An old Dutch soup pea, Blauwschokkers is a unique and historic edible ornamental, featuring lightly fragrant bi-color flowers, stunning blue-violet pea pods, and dried peas that make superb soup.

The pretty scented flowers of Blauwschokkers are very welcome in the garden and sublime in salads. Though tender when very young, the pods are probably best left to ripen and dry on the vine for use as exceptionally delicious soup peas.

Blauwschokkers is neither a snap nor a shelling pea, and growers that dare poo-poo this pea as a snap or shelly are missing the point. These peas belong in a pot of Snert.

Peas prefer to grow in cool weather. Plant pea seeds in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked. If soil is unusually cool and wet, sprout peas indoors (but only just), and sow in place as you would unsprouted peas. Blauwschokkers requires a trellis and will climb to six feet. Ideal for growing in autumn.

For purple snap peas, consider Sugar Magnolia.

Packet contains at least 50 seeds.
