MERLO NERO SPINACH SEEDS

Spinacia oleracea

The most delicious spinach that I have grown, but also the most finicky. Merlo Nero is a gorgeous dark green savoyed Italian variety that is incredibly cold hardy and will overwinter easily in most northern gardens, even without protection. Does not tolerate heat. Not even a little. Best sown in autumn, and even through the winter in mild climates.

In regions with a long cool lingering spring, these seeds may be sown successfully in late winter or very early spring for a single harvest of baby spinach. Sow directly into loose fertile soil as soon as the soil can be worked, preferably in a location with morning sun and afternoon shade. Water frequently, both before and after germination. Harvest baby leaves promptly.

In autumn and winter, long mature puckered leaves hold very well once harvested. Freezes beautifully. Perfect for spanakopita, lasagna, and malai palak.

Packet contains at least 200 seeds.
