BALADY ASWAN LETTUCE SEEDS
Lactuca sativa
ORGANIC
Plucked from the depths of the USDA Germplasm Resources Information Network by Wild Garden Seeds, this old Egyptian celtuce is perhaps a relic of those depicted in ancient hieroglyphs.
The very phallic nature of celtuce made it an ideal offering to Min, an Egyptian god of fertility. The thick sturdy edible stem of this plant heaves abrutly out of the ground, and when harvested it exudes a milky latex sap (for which the genus was named).
Unique, even among celtuces, these plants produce large rosettes of broad buttery non-bitter leaves in a lovely shade of emerald green. These leaves remain sweet and delicious even as stems of impressive girth erupt from the Earth. These stems may be harvested for use as vegetables, and are delicious both raw and cooked.
Fantastically versatile and a great subject of conversation at your next garden party.
Packet contains at least 300 seeds.
