WEDDING BELLS MORNING GLORY

Ipomoea tricolor

One of our favorite climbing annuals. Luminous 4" lilac flowers on vines that will climb upwards of 15' given the chance. Perfect for garden archways and on tall trellises with Giant Moonflowers.

Found as a chance seedling in a field of Heavenly Blue and introduced to the trade by Darold Decker in 1962. Rarely available in the last 30 years. Blooms very late, beginning in September here in the Northeast. Magical in the company of tall Tartarian Asters.

These seeds may be sown outdoors once soil has warmed in spring, but due to their very precious nature it may be better to start them indoors, around 4 weeks before the last spring frost. Nick seeds gently and soak overnight. Plant swollen seeds about 1/4" deep in moist soil, covering pot to maintain moisture and temperature. Germination occurs in about two weeks. Transplant seedlings to individual deep pots to grow on in bright light until garden soil has warmed and all danger of frost has passed. Carefully harden off before transplanting outdoors. Provide a sturdy trellis or arbor for them to climb.

Slow-growing at first, but unbelievably vigorous and floriferous by late summer. Tolerates light frost. Best show in the morning hours, but flowers stay open throughout the day in cool cloudy weather.

Rare, exquisite, and highly recommended.

Packet contains 10 seeds.
