TITHONIA SEEDS

Tithonia rotundifolia

Also known as Mexican Sunflower, the foliage of this species is not rotund in the least. It was historically listed as Tithonia speciosa, as it very probably should be today. Of the many beautiful species in the genus, this one fares best as an annual in northern gardens. Start seeds indoors with the tomatoes. Fast-growing plants should be potted up into larger containers as necessary until garden soil is good and warm. Requires full sun and not much else. Water just until established.

Large dramatic plants can grow to 6' and have gorgeous deep orange flowers that glow in the landscape. Suitable for cutting. Attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies. Tolerates drought and minor deer browsing once established. Fantastic as a filler in a newly planted perennial border that includes slow-growing Maximillian Sunflower.

This is not the more commonly available selection sold as ‘Torch'. Most plants grown from these seeds will produce orange flowers, but some may produce red or yellow flowers. All are lovely and beloved by pollinators. Fast, easy and very impressive in the landscape.

Packet contains at least 100 seeds.
